ATV Driver Arrested with Fentanyl and BB Gun in St. Stephen
URGENT UPDATE: A shocking incident unfolded in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, where police arrested a 42-year-old ATV driver for fleeing a check stop and being in possession of illegal drugs and a BB gun. The arrest occurred shortly after 11:25 a.m. on August 28, 2023, when officers attempted to stop the ATV, but the driver sped away.
Authorities report that they seized 26 grams of fentanyl, a BB handgun, and drug trafficking paraphernalia from the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed. According to a St. Stephen RCMP press release, the driver was apprehended a short time later, but was released without a scheduled court date, as the investigation is ongoing.
This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on drug-related offenses in the area. Just hours later, on August 29, 2023, police arrested a 46-year-old woman after stopping her vehicle on Prince William Street. Officers seized 22 grams of crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, psilocybin, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. The woman is set to appear in court in December.
In a separate incident on the same day, the Grand Manan RCMP arrested a 57-year-old man on an existing warrant, discovering cocaine during the arrest. He was also released pending a future court appearance.
Sgt. Pierre Ladouceur of the West District RCMP emphasized the importance of these operations, stating that they are a direct result of the relentless efforts by police to combat the flow of illicit drugs into local communities.
Police are urging anyone with information on these ongoing investigations to contact the St. Stephen RCMP at 506-466-7030. The community’s safety depends on collective vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
