B.C. Massage Therapist Resigns Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations
UPDATE: A former massage therapist in British Columbia, Conan Valyear, has resigned just before facing suspension from the College of Complementary Health Professionals of B.C. for serious allegations of sexual misconduct. The resignation occurred on October 14, 2025, as confirmed by the college in a public notice released today.
The college’s inquiry committee stated it would have suspended Valyear had he not stepped down. The decision follows a complaint from a patient who accused him of inappropriate touching, including allegedly stroking her groin and breasts without consent. The notice emphasizes that these actions were non-therapeutic and explicitly unwanted.
The committee noted that the allegations are severe, highlighting a risk of recurrence based on Valyear’s past conduct. In a previous disciplinary case, he admitted to engaging in non-therapeutic interactions with a patient, raising further concerns about his professional behavior.
Valyear is currently registered as a massage therapist “in another jurisdiction,” although the college did not specify the location. The panel indicated that had he not resigned, they would have implemented an interim suspension order to protect the public while they investigated further.
Authorities stress the importance of public safety in their findings, stating, “There was no lesser measure that would adequately address the risk posed to the public.” The allegations against Valyear, while serious, have not yet been legally proven, but the college is taking them very seriously.
This urgent development sheds light on ongoing issues of misconduct within the massage therapy profession, prompting discussions about regulatory practices and patient safety.
As more information becomes available, the public is urged to stay informed and report any concerns regarding professional conduct in healthcare settings. The ongoing investigation will determine any further actions against Valyear or potential sanctions.
