URGENT UPDATE: The Blackhawk Firefighter Association is set to host a significant Sept. 11 memorial ceremony this Sunday, Sept. 21, at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois. The ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m., is free to the public and will take place at the dedicated Sept. 11 memorial located at 173 Route 2 on the college campus.

This poignant event aims to honor the brave first responders who lost their lives during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It will also recognize the dedicated service of three members of the Blackhawk Firefighter Association (BFFA), reflecting on their years of commitment to the community, according to Dixon firefighter Brandon Boettcher.

The BFFA comprises over 80 departments across northwest Illinois and has been instrumental in organizing this memorial every other year at the college. “It’s a time to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by our heroes,” Boettcher stated, stressing the emotional significance of the gathering.

In a display of patriotism, the Dixon Fire Department, a proud member of the BFFA, will have a fire truck at the event, prominently flying an American flag. This visual tribute adds to the solemn atmosphere, making the event a must-attend for those wishing to pay their respects.

For those interested in participating, further information can be obtained by contacting Boettcher at 815-915-6425. Don’t miss this opportunity to honor the fallen and celebrate the enduring spirit of community and resilience.

As the nation approaches the anniversary of that fateful day, gatherings like this serve as vital reminders of the heroism displayed on September 11, 2001, and the ongoing commitment of first responders across the country. Share this news to encourage others to attend and pay tribute.
