Blue Jays Fans Flood Toronto Bars for World Series Game 6
UPDATE: Toronto is buzzing with excitement as Blue Jays fans prepare to flood downtown bars and restaurants for Game 6 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers this evening. The atmosphere is electric, with venues anticipating record-breaking crowds as the Blue Jays aim to secure their first championship since the 1990s.
A typically quiet Halloween night is transforming into a lively celebration at Cafe Diplomatico on College Street. The Little Italy hotspot is fully booked, with reservations for prime seating near their giant screen long gone. Co-owner Rocco Mastrangelo Jr. confirmed, “We’re excited. We’re gearing up, we’re stocking up, we brought in extra inventory — definitely more beer.” The restaurant plans to keep 30% of its seats open for walk-ups, ensuring everyone has a chance to join the festivities.
Just a stone’s throw away, Steam Whistle Brewing is also gearing up for a record night. Tables have been filling up since midday, with patrons eager for a less expensive drink before heading to the nearby Rogers Centre. “There’s going to be two flows of people,” said Catherine Oppedisano of Steam Whistle. “People are looking to hold their spot for the watch party.”
Roundhouse Park, adjacent to Steam Whistle, is one of the few areas in Toronto where drinking outside is permitted. Those unable to secure a table can still enjoy the game atmosphere with a pint in hand while watching the big screen.
The impact of this World Series run is undeniable. According to Moneris, a payment platform, restaurant transaction volumes surged by 27% near Rogers Centre and 10% citywide during Game 1, highlighting how championship fervor inspires fans to indulge and celebrate. The average transaction size also increased, up 13% near Rogers Centre and 5% citywide.
While Game 2 saw a dip in overall spending after the Dodgers leveled the series, transactions remained up 20% near Rogers Centre and 2% citywide. The average transaction size still showed significant growth, indicating that fans are continuing to spend more as the stakes rise.
Hotels in the area are also benefiting from the World Series excitement, with Destination Toronto reporting an 18% increase in hotel demand compared to last year, translating to more than 7,000 room nights due to the games played in Toronto.
As the city prepares for tonight’s pivotal matchup, sentiments are high. Mastrangelo Jr. expressed his hope for an end to the series tonight, saying, “I would prefer them wrapping it up. I don’t want them to be going to Game 7.” His words reflect the sentiment of many fans eager to see the Blue Jays bring home the title and secure a victory for Toronto.
As the clock ticks down to game time, Toronto’s bars and restaurants are primed for a night of celebration, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments. The energy is palpable, making it clear that tonight is more than just a game; it’s a chance for a city to rally behind its team and create lasting memories.
Stay tuned for live updates as the Blue Jays take the field in this crucial Game 6. Fans are encouraged to share their experiences and support their team as they push for victory.
