Bradley-Bourbonnais Board President Resigns, New Role Awaiting

URGENT UPDATE: Justin Caldwell, the president of the board of education for Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School District 307, has announced his resignation, effective August 11, 2023. This significant development comes as Caldwell transitions to a new role as the director of outreach and training for the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB).

In his resignation letter, dated July 30, Caldwell expressed that this new position, which involves supporting the Three Rivers Division including BBCHS and other nearby districts, necessitated his departure due to a conflict of interest. Caldwell, a Bourbonnais resident, is in his third term on the BBCHS Board, with his current term set to expire in April 2027. He previously served on the Bradley Elementary District 61 School Board.

Jim Patterson, the board’s vice president, will assume the presidential role in Caldwell’s absence. The board will now post the vacancy and welcome applications for a new appointee to complete Caldwell’s unexpired term.

When reached for comment, Caldwell shared his sentiments with the Daily Journal: “I had no prior intentions of leaving the BBCHS Board and struggled to make the decision. At the end of the day, I’m still going to be connected to education and being able to support my local community.” He expressed excitement about his new role, which allows him to work with all school boards within Kankakee County.

Caldwell emphasized his ongoing commitment to BBCHS, particularly as the district undergoes $70 million in upgrades following last November’s referendum—a project he actively supported. “I really have a love of BBCHS and the community, and I plan to stay very connected,” he affirmed.

In his resignation letter, Caldwell reflected on his tenure: “Serving the students, families, staff, and community of BBCHS has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career.” He highlighted the board’s achievements in improving student outcomes, enhancing transparency, and renovating facilities for a brighter future.

The IASB, a voluntary organization dedicated to strengthening public schools through local governance, is recognized as a pivotal entity in educational leadership across Illinois. Caldwell’s new role will enable him to further contribute to educational advancement while remaining connected to the community he cherishes.
