Brandon U Dominates USB 4-0, Secures First-Place Position

UPDATE: In a stunning display of skill, the Brandon University men’s soccer team triumphed over the defending Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference champions, defeating the St. Boniface Les Rouges 4-0 on Sunday. With this decisive victory, Brandon University solidifies its position at the top of the league standings, now boasting a record of 8-2-0.
This match not only marked a significant win for the Bobcats but also served as a heartfelt send-off for their senior players, including Nathan Chubaty and Bryson Haywood, who were honored prior to the kickoff. Camilo Rodriguez led the charge with two goals, while T.J. Bodunrin and Haywood contributed one goal each, showcasing the team’s offensive prowess.
The victory is crucial as it puts BU two points ahead of Canadian Mennonite University, which holds a record of 7-2-1. With just a few games left in the season, the Bobcats are eyeing upcoming matches against Providence and Assiniboine, both of which could impact their playoff positioning.
In the women’s match, Brandon University also showcased its dominance by defeating USB 6-0. Standout player Brogan Henry netted two goals and provided two assists, with contributions from teammates Jorja Hoad, Bien Van Berkel, Abby-Jo Wark, and Kenadie Janzen. Goalkeeper Josie Black achieved a clean sheet, making two saves on her senior day.
The stakes are high for the Assiniboine College Cougars, who suffered a 2-0 loss to the St. Boniface Les Rouges on Saturday and fell 2-1 to the Providence Pilots on Sunday, effectively eliminating them from playoff contention. Their women’s team faces an uphill battle, needing to defeat BU in their final game to have a chance at postseason play.
As the playoffs approach on October 25-26, the Bobcats are set to clash with the Pilots next Saturday, with home-field advantage for the women’s playoffs on the line. If the Pilots defeat Les Rouges on Thursday, the winner of Saturday’s match will secure first place due to head-to-head tiebreaker rules.
Stay tuned for more updates as the playoffs draw nearer, and support your local teams as they battle for glory!
