Brandon University Kicks Off Winter Semester with Exciting Events
UPDATE: Brandon University is set to resume classes this week, with a lineup of engaging events aimed at enriching student experiences. Starting February 23, 2026, students and community members can attend a series of lectures and performances designed to inspire and educate.
The first highlight is a special Out of Bounds Lecture Series event featuring opera singer and Fulbright Scholar Camryn Dewar. Dewar will deliver her presentation on female Indigenous representation in Canadian opera from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. This free event is open to all, promising to shed light on the critical contributions of Indigenous women in the arts.
On Friday, the Science Seminar Series will return with Sean McKenna from the University of Manitoba. His talk on non-coding RNAs will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Room 4-34 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre, inviting science enthusiasts to explore this cutting-edge research area.
Additionally, the Teachings House event on Thursday will feature Knowledge Keeper Joan Church, who will share her personal story and connection to her Métis identity. This reflective session will occur from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the He Oyate Tawapi Ceremony Room, welcoming all attendees.
Mark your calendars for the 16th Brandon University Clarinet Festival this weekend, where guest artists including Jonathan Russell, Alex Whitehead, and Colin Mehmel will join BU faculty, alumni, and students for a weekend packed with performances and workshops. Meanwhile, Assiniboine College is celebrating Black History Month with a series of student-led events throughout February. Students can find more information about these initiatives at assiniboinestudents.ca.
For those exploring further educational opportunities, Assiniboine College is hosting an open house on February 25 from 3 to 8 p.m. at their Victoria Avenue East campus. Attendees can discover over 70 programs designed to propel their careers forward.
Additionally, do not miss the Cured and Crafted event, a unique charcuterie and beer experience at the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts on February 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.. Details can be found at assiniboine.net/events.
Finally, sports fans can rally behind the Assiniboine College Cougars Women’s hockey team at the game against North Dakota State University on February 22. The “Puck Drop & Pastries” event promises complimentary treats, refreshments, and exciting prizes.
