Brandon University Soccer Teams Dominate in Senior Day Victories
UPDATE: In a stunning display of athletic prowess, the Brandon University men’s soccer team crushed the defending champions, St. Boniface Les Rouges, with a decisive 4-0 victory on Sunday, October 15, 2023. This triumph not only celebrated the seniors but also solidified BU’s position at the top of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference standings.
Camilo Rodriguez shone brightly, netting two goals, while Bryson Haywood and T.J. Bodunrin contributed with one goal each. The Bobcats now boast an impressive record of 8-2-0, leading the league ahead of Canadian Mennonite University by two points.
Before the match at the Healthy Living Centre, senior players including Haywood and captain Nathan Chubaty were honored, marking a memorable farewell for the team’s graduating members. The Bobcats have crucial matches against Providence and Assiniboine coming up, as they aim to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs.
On the women’s side, Brandon University also dominated, defeating USB with a staggering score of 6-0. Star player Brogan Henry excelled with two goals and two assists, supported by goals from Jorja Hoad, Bien Van Berkel, Abby-Jo Wark, and Kenadie Janzen. Goalkeeper Josie Black achieved a clean sheet, making her senior day even more memorable.
As the season approaches its climax, the women’s team holds a strong record of 9-1-0, positioning themselves well for the playoffs. The stakes are high as they prepare for their next match against Providence, with potential playoff implications on the line.
This weekend’s results were bittersweet for Assiniboine College, as their women’s team fell 8-0 to St. Boniface, while the men’s team was eliminated from playoff contention after a 2-0 loss to Providence.
With the playoffs set for October 25-26, all eyes will be on the Bobcats as they strive to maintain their dominance and secure a top seed. Fans are encouraged to rally behind the teams as they make their final push for championship glory.
