UPDATE: A Calgary man has been charged with manslaughter following a deadly altercation at a McDonald’s parking lot. Kwok Leung Lau, aged 76, suffered severe injuries during a fight with another man at approximately 2:15 p.m. on October 21, 2023, in the 0-100 block of Crowfoot Way N.W.

Initial reports indicate that both men declined medical attention when police first arrived on the scene. However, less than 90 minutes later, emergency services were summoned again after Lau was found in medical distress. He was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries, marking Calgary’s 13th homicide of the year.

Authorities have now upgraded the charge against Chiu Man Yuen, aged 79, from aggravated assault to manslaughter. This significant development comes as investigators seek further information about the incident, particularly from a witness who intervened during the altercation.
