Calgary Stampeders Secure Rushing Leader Dedrick Mills for 2 Years
UPDATE: The Calgary Stampeders have just announced the re-signing of rushing leader Dedrick Mills to a two-year contract, extending his tenure through the CFL 2027 season. This urgent development comes as Mills was set to become a free agent on February 10, marking a significant move for the team as they look to build on last season’s performance.
Mills, a 28-year-old standout from Waycross, Georgia, dominated the league in 2025, rushing for a career-high 1,409 yards and achieving 11 rushing touchdowns, both personal bests. His impressive performance earned him divisional and leaguewide All-CFL honors. In the recent Western semifinal against the B.C. Lions, Mills added another 114 rushing yards despite the team’s loss.
Since joining the Stampeders in 2022, Mills has accumulated 3,593 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns across 51 career regular-season games. He has also made a significant impact in the passing game with 98 catches for 847 receiving yards. His return is expected to bolster Calgary’s offense as they prepare for the upcoming season.
In other major news, Najee Murray, an American defensive back, has signed a contract with the Montreal Alouettes for the 2026 season. The 31-year-old from Steubenville, Ohio recorded 77 defensive tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions last season, showcasing his skills on the field. Murray has been with the Alouettes since 2018 and has accumulated 240 defensive tackles throughout his career.
Additionally, the B.C. Lions have secured Canadian linebacker Adam Konar with a two-year extension. Konar, 32, had a solid stint with the Lions last season, recording nine tackles before an arm injury cut his season short. His career totals include 226 defensive tackles and five sacks over 132 games.
In a move to enhance their roster, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon to a one-year extension. The 29-year-old has appeared in 42 career games, rushing for 365 yards and four touchdowns, along with notable contributions on special teams.
Finally, veteran CFL executive Brock Sunderland has joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as the senior director of player personnel. Sunderland previously held a similar role with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and has extensive experience in the league, including a successful stint with the Edmonton Eskimos.
These signings signal a busy offseason in the CFL, with teams positioning themselves for success ahead of the 2026 season. Fans are eager to see how these key players will impact their teams as the league continues to evolve.
