URGENT UPDATE: Camosun College is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative to transform technical education in Kenya through digital learning. This effort is crucial for empowering young people, particularly women and vulnerable populations, with essential digital skills.

In a recent announcement, Camosun College confirmed its partnership with Algonquin College, Georgian College, and several Kenyan institutions to revolutionize the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. The project aims to develop sustainable, high-quality online and blended learning programs that will significantly enhance educational access in Kenya.

Using a unique “train-the-trainer” model, this initiative will train up to 20 trainers from Kenya’s KSTVET. Notably, seven trainers will travel to Canada for advanced training, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge digital learning tools and methodologies. Upon their return in 2026, these trainers will equip 96 instructors from partner institutions with new skills, dramatically expanding the reach of digital education across the nation.

Camosun College completed its first mission in November 2023, successfully training 20 master trainers at four institutions in Nairobi. “I learned so much from the diversity of the instructors,” stated Camosun instructor Julia Grav. “This interdisciplinary opportunity highlighted how Colleges and Institutes Canada is advancing equity-driven education initiatives.”

Project manager Marius Langeland emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This project exemplifies the power of international collaboration. By sharing our expertise in online learning, we’re helping Kenyan institutions create flexible, inclusive education pathways.”

This initiative not only aims to improve technical skills but also seeks to bridge the digital divide in Kenya, making education more accessible for marginalized groups.

As this project unfolds, the impact on local communities will be profound, providing new opportunities for countless individuals. Stay tuned for further updates on this transformative educational partnership, which highlights the vital role of global collaboration in fostering equitable access to education.
