Campbell River Storm Players Urgently Clean Beach Debris
URGENT UPDATE: In a remarkable display of community spirit, players from the Campbell River Storm dedicated their Tuesday afternoon to an urgent beach cleanup at Willow Point. This initiative, driven by the Rotary Club of Campbell River, focuses on removing hazardous debris, including a massive dock that washed ashore near Adams Park.
Just hours ago, players swapped their usual workout for a hands-on approach to environmental stewardship. Their involvement comes on the heels of a previous cleanup on September 18, where Rotarians successfully removed large styrofoam blocks from the dock. These blocks posed a significant threat, as they would have broken down into harmful microplastics during the upcoming storm season.
Wes Roed, the team’s director of hockey operations, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute, stating,
“The Campbell River Storm are always looking for opportunities to give back to our tremendous community. This clean-up effort fits into our ideals perfectly, plus having the added bonus of keeping our city beautiful.”
The urgency of this cleanup cannot be overstated. With storm season approaching, safeguarding local ecosystems and keeping the beaches pristine is crucial. The players’ hands-on approach not only helps improve the environment but also inspires community involvement.
As the cleanup continues, residents are encouraged to support similar initiatives and participate in future environmental efforts. The Campbell River Storm and the Rotary Club are set to collaborate on additional projects, ensuring that community engagement remains strong.
Stay tuned for more updates on this vital community effort and how you can get involved!
