Canada Defeats Denmark 2-1 in Billie Jean Cup Playoffs
URGENT UPDATE: Canada has triumphed over Denmark in the Billie Jean Cup playoffs, clinching a 2-1 victory in Monterrey, Mexico, on November 15, 2025. The dynamic duo of Gabriela Dabrowski and Victoria Mboko showcased their skills in a decisive doubles match, securing Canada’s position in the Group A playoffs.
In an electrifying matchup, Dabrowski and Mboko dominated the Danish pairing of Emma Kamper and Johanne Christine Svendsen, winning 6-2, 6-4 in just 59 minutes. The Canadians displayed impressive precision, delivering four aces and committing only one double fault. They converted three out of six break points, winning 62 of the 100 points contested.
Earlier in the day, Mboko fought valiantly to level the match, defeating Svendsen 7-5, 6-3 in a thrilling 1 hour, 24 minutes. Mboko’s performance included an outstanding 11 aces and a remarkable 86 percent success rate on her first serve. In contrast, her opponent struggled with four double faults and only converted 63 percent of her first serves.
The opening match saw Cadence Brace face off against Rebecca Munk Mortensen in a grueling three-set battle. Brace took the first set 6-3 but ultimately fell short, losing the next two sets 7-6(4), 7-6(4) after a dramatic 3 hours, 41 minutes on the court. Despite her efforts, Brace managed two aces but faced challenges with six double faults.
Canada’s victory sets the stage for their next challenge against Mexico, who previously defeated Denmark 2-1 in their Group A playoff. With the stakes high, all eyes will be on Canada’s performance as they aim to secure their place in the competition.
