Canada’s Astronauts to Receive Hon. Marc Garneau Award on Oct. 28

URGENT UPDATE: The Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC) has just announced that Canada’s astronauts, both past and present, will be honored with the prestigious Hon. Marc Garneau Award at the upcoming Canadian Aerospace Summit 2025. This significant recognition will take place on October 28, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario, during the Annual Aerospace Industry Awards Ceremony.
The Hon. Marc Garneau Award aims to celebrate the incredible contributions of Canadian astronauts, including the active astronaut corps members: Jeremy Hansen, David Saint-Jacques, Joshua Kutryk, and Jenni Gibbons. They will accept the award on behalf of all Canadian astronauts, emphasizing their vital role in innovation and space exploration.
“This award is a testament to the courage, curiosity, and commitment of Canada’s astronauts,” said Mike Mueller, President and CEO of AIAC. “Recognizing them during this year’s Summit is an honor that highlights the legacy of the Honourable Marc Garneau, Canada’s first astronaut.”
The importance of this award extends beyond mere recognition. As the Canadian Space Agency prepares for future missions, including the Artemis II, the contributions of these astronauts are crucial in shaping Canada’s role in upcoming space endeavors. Lisa Campbell, President of the Canadian Space Agency, noted, “This award not only honors individual achievements but also the collective legacy of Canadian astronauts in inspiring generations.”
Established in 2022, the Hon. Marc Garneau Award previously recognized individual leaders, making this year’s group recognition a historic first. Past recipients include aerospace leader Michel Ouellette and the award’s namesake, Marc Garneau, himself.
The Canadian Aerospace Summit is the premier national aerospace event of the year, providing exceptional networking opportunities with industry leaders and government officials. Attendees will gain insights into current trends and challenges in the aerospace sector, further enriching the significance of this award presentation.
As Canada’s aerospace sector contributes over $34 billion to the economy, this recognition serves as a powerful reminder of the nation’s commitment to space exploration and technological advancement. With nearly 225,000 jobs supported across the country, the efforts of these astronauts resonate deeply within the aerospace community and beyond.
Stay tuned for further updates as the award ceremony approaches, celebrating those who inspire us all to reach for the stars.
