Capital Pride Parade Kicks Off Today in Ottawa at 1 PM

URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated Capital Pride Parade is set to begin today at 1 PM in Ottawa, capping off a week of vibrant festivities. Thousands of attendees are expected to line the streets, celebrating diversity and inclusion in a powerful demonstration of community spirit.
According to Capital Pride executive director Callie Metler, over 175 groups and more than 6,000 participants are registered to march in this year’s parade. Metler expressed excitement for the event, stating, “We kick off from the same place, Elgin and Laurier, just as always, but this year we’re really excited that we’re going on Wellington, we’re going past Parliament, we’re reclaiming that important space of advocacy, of action, of protest in our Queer community.”
The parade will commence at Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue, proceeding north toward the National War Memorial, then west along Wellington Street. This route is particularly significant as it marks the first return to this area since the Freedom Convoy activities in 2022, emphasizing the community’s resilience and commitment to advocacy.
Road closures will be in effect as the parade unfolds. The City of Ottawa has announced that several streets will be closed to ensure the safety of participants and spectators. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure viewing spots.
In addition to the parade, the Capital Pride Street Festival will continue today on Bank Street, stretching from Gladstone Avenue to Laurier Avenue. This festival features local community groups, artisans, and businesses, alongside a variety of food trucks and outdoor patios from surrounding bars and restaurants. The TD Main Stage will host performances until 10 PM, providing entertainment for all attendees.
The Capital Pride Parade is not just an event; it’s a celebration of love, acceptance, and the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights. As the parade approaches, the atmosphere in Ottawa is electric with anticipation and excitement.
Stay tuned for live updates as the parade gets underway, and join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #CapitalPride. This is a moment of unity and joy for the community—don’t miss it!
