Cary-Grove’s Kennedy Manning Shines in 49-12 Victory Over Hampshire
URGENT UPDATE: Cary-Grove’s star quarterback, Kennedy Manning, delivered a jaw-dropping performance last night, leading her team to a 49-12 victory against Hampshire in Fox Valley Conference girls flag football. With over 350 total yards and six touchdowns, Manning showcased her athletic prowess and determination, leaving fans exhilarated.
In an electrifying match on October 17, 2023, Manning dazzled the crowd with her agility and strategic play. The senior quarterback completed 20 passes for 182 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 177 yards and two scores on just 13 carries. This victory keeps Cary-Grove undefeated at 5-0 and solidifies their position in the conference with a 2-0 record.
“We’re learning about football and we’re developing teamwork,” Manning stated, reflecting on her growth as a player. “I’m always looking for my teammates first, but when I see a wide open shot, I’ll run and do as much as I can.”
The Trojans took an early lead thanks to Manning’s precision, tossing a 13-yard touchdown pass to Maddie Dieschbourg in the first quarter. Following a turnover, Manning connected with Aria Stanton for another touchdown, pushing the score to 12-0. Despite Hampshire’s attempts to apply pressure, they struggled to contain Manning’s dynamic gameplay.
Cary-Grove’s head coach, Cara Neff, praised Manning’s leadership, stating, “She’s our rock… I’m really proud of her, but I’m also proud of our team for giving her time to make throws.” The teamwork was evident as both Dieschbourg and Stanton excelled on both offense and defense, combining for four touchdowns and three interceptions.
One of the night’s highlights came when Manning evaded defenders to find Dieschbourg again for a 9-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 18-0. The crowd erupted as Manning executed a stunning 28-yard rushing touchdown, showcasing her impressive footwork and speed. Her performance continued to shine in the third quarter, converting a crucial fourth down with a 25-yard run to bring the score to 30-6.
Hampshire found some momentum late in the second quarter with Sydney Bennick returning an interception for a 25-yard touchdown, marking their first points of the game. The Whip-Purs adjusted their strategy in the second half, employing a three-quarterback system to increase their offensive effectiveness. They managed to score again when running back Rebecca Rossingnol connected with wide receiver Emilia Paulauskas for a 19-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Despite Hampshire’s efforts, they could not match the intensity of the Manning-led Trojans. Cary-Grove scored two more touchdowns, including a 7-yard pass from Manning to Stanton and an 8-yard run by Julia Nichols, sealing the decisive win. The evening concluded with a defensive touchdown as Dieschbourg intercepted a pass and returned it 20 yards for another score.
Manning’s performance not only highlights her individual talent but also emphasizes the growing success of girls’ flag football. With Cary-Grove’s offense firing on all cylinders, the team is poised for continued success this season.
Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely as Cary-Grove aims to maintain their perfect record. As Manning stated, “It’s a big confidence builder, and I can’t wait to keep moving forward.”
