CBC K-W Launches Urgent Food Drive Amid Growing Need in Waterloo
URGENT UPDATE: CBC Kitchener-Waterloo has just launched its annual campaign, Make The Season Kind, aimed at addressing the rising food insecurity in the Waterloo Region. Throughout December 2023, the campaign focuses on raising urgently needed food and funds for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
Earlier today, CBC K-W’s The Morning Edition host, Craig Norris, visited the food bank to meet with CEO Kim Wilhelm. During this critical meeting, Wilhelm highlighted the escalating demand for food assistance as more local families struggle to make ends meet this winter. “The need is greater than ever,” Wilhelm stated, emphasizing that the community’s support is essential in these trying times.
As of now, the Food Bank has reported a significant increase in the number of families seeking assistance, with over 3,000 families relying on food support each month. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for contributions. Norris’s visit serves to raise awareness and encourage community involvement in this vital cause.
The Make The Season Kind campaign is designed to not only gather food donations but also to foster a spirit of kindness and compassion within the community. During December, CBC K-W will host various events and donation drives to amplify the message and increase participation.
Community members are encouraged to contribute by donating non-perishable food items or by making financial contributions directly to the Food Bank. Every dollar donated helps provide approximately $3.00 worth of food, making cash donations incredibly impactful.
What happens next? As the month progresses, more events are planned to mobilize the community and boost donations. The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated; local families depend on this support to navigate the challenges of winter.
Stay tuned for updates on the campaign and ways you can help make a difference. Your involvement is crucial in ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry this holiday season. Share this information widely to help spread the word and inspire action!
