Central Connecticut Blocks Two Field Goals, Wins 10-7 Over LIU
UPDATE: In a gripping showdown, Central Connecticut’s defense stepped up in the final moments, blocking two crucial field goals to secure a 10-7 victory against Long Island University (LIU) on October 21, 2023. This win keeps Central Connecticut firmly in first place in the Northeast Conference (NEC).
The decisive play came from Jack Stoll, who thwarted an 18-yard field goal attempt with only 7 seconds left on the clock. The Blue Devils’ defense held strong, making this a nail-biting finish for fans in New Britain, Connecticut.
LIU had a chance to change the game after a lengthy drive that started at their own 1-yard line. They moved the ball to the Central Connecticut 23 but failed to convert on third down. A blocked 40-yard field goal attempt by Stylz Mitchell kept Central Connecticut ahead, but the Sharks were not done yet.
With just under four minutes remaining, LIU regained possession, inching closer to a game-tying score. However, the Blue Devils’ defense proved impenetrable, breaking up two critical passes before Stoll made his game-winning block.
The first half ended with Central Connecticut leading 3-0. In the second half, LIU took the lead with a 16-play drive capped by a 3-yard touchdown pass from Luca Stanzani to O’Shawn Ross Jr.. Central answered quickly, with Brady Olson connecting on a stunning 51-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Wadley, putting the Blue Devils back in control.
Brady Olson completed 16 of 29 passes for 200 yards, contributing significantly to the Blue Devils’ offensive efforts. Despite their loss, LIU’s Stanzani had a solid performance, completing 21 of 33 passes for 127 yards.
This victory marks Central Connecticut’s fourth straight win, improving their record to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the NEC. As the season progresses, the Blue Devils are poised to maintain their lead in the conference.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Central Connecticut heads into their next matchup, seeking to extend their winning streak. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
