Chatham-Kent Libraries Offering Free Native Plant Seeds Starting Sept. 2
URGENT UPDATE: Starting on September 2, residents of Chatham-Kent can get ready to green their gardens as the Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) launches its much-anticipated CKPL Grows Seed Library, featuring a selection of native plant seeds for free checkout. This exciting initiative aims to promote biodiversity and encourage local gardening, making it easier for community members to cultivate beautiful and sustainable outdoor spaces.
This year’s seed library will include popular local plants such as Black-Eyed Susan, Butterfly Weed, Swamp and Common Milkweed, Purple Coneflower, and New England Asters. With these seeds, residents can foster vibrant gardens that not only enhance their backyards but also contribute to the local ecosystem.
To participate, residents need a valid CKPL library card. Each cardholder can check out up to five packages of seeds. This initiative is designed to provide access to affordable flowers and plants, ensuring everyone can create beautiful, thriving gardens in their own communities.
The CKPL Grows Seed Library is not just about gardening; it’s about fostering a sense of community and environmental stewardship. By offering these seeds for free, the library encourages residents to engage with nature and support local wildlife, including pollinators that are essential for a healthy ecosystem.
For more information about the CKPL Grows Seed Library and other library programs, residents can visit search.ckpl.ca or call 519-354-2940. Don’t miss this chance to enrich your garden and community starting September 2!
