Cloverdale Jr. Hockey Club Secures Historic First Win, 4-1

BREAKING: The Cloverdale Jr. Hockey Club has made history by securing their first-ever win in franchise history, triumphing over the Mission City Outlaws with a decisive score of 4-1 just moments ago. This victory marks a significant milestone for the expansion team in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.
After suffering a 4-0 loss in their home opener, the Cloverdale players demonstrated resilience and skill in the rematch against Mission City. General Manager Brien Gemmell expressed relief and pride following the game, stating, “Getting that first win under our belt was crucial. I was happy with our first two games.”
Cloverdale kicked off the scoring in an electrifying fashion. Forward Ashton Holbech netted the first goal in club history with just 2:01 remaining in the first period, assisted by Ryder Birtch and Calvin Bright. This goal was particularly meaningful for Holbech, as he played against his former team, the Outlaws, last season.
Captain Zachary Johns quickly followed up with a power play goal only 1:11 later, showcasing Cloverdale’s offensive prowess. Though Mission City managed to narrow the gap with a power play goal from Colton Collard in the second period, Johns struck again in the third, solidifying Cloverdale’s lead. With an empty-netter from Jeevin Bal in the final seconds, the game concluded with a flourish.
In a standout performance, goaltender Kyle Taylor was instrumental in the win, stopping an impressive 49 of the 50 shots he faced during the game. His efforts were pivotal in ensuring the team’s historic victory.
Fans can catch the action live as Cloverdale prepares for their next game against the Abbotsford Pilots on September 25 at The Barn, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.. The team will then head to White Rock to face the Whalers on September 30 at 4:15 p.m.
