CNE Returns with Exciting Events and King’s Plate This Weekend!

URGENT UPDATE: The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is officially back at Exhibition Place in Toronto, running for the next 18 days. Kicking off this weekend, the CNE features thrilling rides, mouth-watering food, and live performances, making it a must-visit event for locals and tourists alike!
This year’s CNE showcases some truly unique culinary creations, including sushi corndogs, habanero cotton candy paired with butter tarts, and lobster gelato. The festival opens today, August 18, 2023, and runs until September 1, 2023.
Performances at the CNE bandshell will feature popular acts including Shawn Desman, Marianas Trench, Jully Black, and 98 Degrees. New this year is the thrilling Dinner in the Sky, offering a dining experience suspended 150 feet in the air!
Additionally, the excitement continues with the 166th running of the King’s Plate this Saturday, August 19. This prestigious event, part of the Canadian Triple Crown, features a $1 million purse and includes food, fashion, and live music. Races commence at 12:45 p.m., with the King’s Plate set for 5:34 p.m. Tickets are still available for this iconic racing event.
For those looking for cultural experiences, the Taste of Manila festival is also taking place this weekend, celebrating its 12th year. Located at Wilson Avenue and Bathurst Street, this event features diverse vendors and performances, showcasing food and crafts from around the globe. The festivities begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. and conclude on Sunday at 5 p.m..
Furthermore, the UpFRONT Festival of Indigenous Arts, Music, and Culture is happening at Berczy Park this weekend. Kicking off today at 4:30 p.m., this free festival emphasizes Indigenous music and dance, along with an artisan market. The event runs until 8 p.m. on Sunday.
TRAFFIC ALERT: There are no planned TTC or GO closures for this weekend. However, road closures are in effect for various events. Bathurst Street will be closed between Laurelcrest Avenue and Wilson Avenue starting Saturday at 12 a.m. until 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Moreover, the Gardiner Expressway has ongoing lane closures due to construction, impacting traffic flow. The westbound lanes are reduced from four to three lanes between Park Lawn Road and Grand Avenue for approximately one year.
As the CNE and these vibrant festivals kick off, residents and visitors are encouraged to participate and enjoy the festivities. The variety of events offers something for everyone, ensuring a fun-filled weekend in Toronto!
