Construction of All-Inclusive Playground Kicks Off in Princeton

BREAKING NEWS: Construction has officially begun on the highly anticipated all-inclusive playground at Zearing Park in Princeton. The Princeton Park District announced this exciting development today, marking a significant step towards enhancing community accessibility and recreation.
This project is made possible through a key partnership with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, which awarded the Park District a substantial Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant in December 2024. The total project cost will be shared equally, with funding split 50/50 between the OSLAD grant and the Park District’s resources.
The new playground promises to feature cutting-edge, accessible equipment designed for all ages and abilities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. In addition, the design includes a new underlayment and a sidewalk for seamless access from existing pathways, significantly improving mobility for all park users.
“We are thrilled to see this project come to life,” said Tammy Lange, Executive Director of the Princeton Park District. “This new playground will be a fantastic addition to our community, providing a safe and fun space where everyone can play together.” Lange expressed gratitude to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for its support and acknowledged the community’s valuable input during the application process.
The project has been in the works for nearly two years, with collaboration from Dan Pepin of Community Funding & Planning Services. As construction progresses, the timeline will largely depend on weather conditions, but officials anticipate the playground will be ready for public use by fall 2025.
For safety reasons, the park district urges the public to stay clear of the construction area until the project is complete. Once the playground is finished, a grand opening celebration is planned to welcome the community to the new facility.
As this project develops, it highlights a growing commitment to inclusivity and community engagement in Princeton, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the great outdoors together. Stay tuned for further updates on this transformative project!
