Crystal Lake Central Boys, Huntley Girls Triumph in XC Meet

UPDATE: In a thrilling showdown at the McHenry County Cross Country Meet on July 15, 2023, Crystal Lake Central boys clinched victory while the Huntley girls dominated their competition.

The boys’ team from Crystal Lake Central captured the title at Emricson Park in Woodstock, finishing with 62 points, narrowly edging out McHenry who scored 69 points. This dramatic finish saw Prairie Ridge take third with 87 points, followed closely by Huntley at 100 points and Woodstock at 102 points.

In individual performances, Cary-Grove’s Jameson Tenopir led the pack, clocking an impressive 15:59.95 to secure first place. He was followed by Woodstock’s Ellery Shutt at 16:10.49, with McHenry’s Nate Martin and Myles Wagner finishing third and fourth, respectively. Notable top finishers included Crystal Lake South’s Joseph Gonzalez at fifth and Johnsburg’s Grady Smith in sixth.

Meanwhile, the girls’ race was equally intense. The Huntley girls triumphed with a staggering 37 points, easily outpacing runner-up Prairie Ridge who scored 75 points. The competition featured ten teams overall, with Crystal Lake South taking third at 83 points and McHenry at 95 points.

Huntley’s Isabella Ciesla finished third overall with a time of 19:12.14, closely followed by teammates Morgan Sauber and Cori Kilvinger, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Prairie Ridge’s Emaline Foster and Anneke Dam dominated the race, securing first and second places with times of 18:45.83 and 19:01.81.

As the season progresses, these victories are vital for both teams, building momentum ahead of future competitions. With the excitement of this meet still fresh, fans are eagerly anticipating the next races.
