Demolition of Airport Inn in Lake Country Starts Today

UPDATE: Demolition of the long-abandoned Airport Inn in Lake Country has officially commenced as of September 29, 2024. Crews are on-site dismantling the building, marking a significant step towards new development in the area.
Mayor Blair Ireland attended the demolition site, emphasizing the importance of safety during the process. “The demolition is being done in a carefully controlled environment, and members of the public are reminded to stay away from the worksite in the interest of public safety,” stated the District of Lake Country in a recent social media announcement.
This demolition opens the door for a new chapter in Lake Country, as the local council approved plans for a four-building, 364 rental unit apartment complex at 11474 Petrie Road by Calgary-based Eagle Crest Construction just over a year ago. The community is buzzing with anticipation, with Mayor Ireland noting during a council meeting on September 3, 2024, “I think everybody in the community is excited to see what’s there go away and see something new rise up.”
The Airport Inn has a troubled history, having been a site of numerous police calls for property crimes and drug-related issues. It was ultimately shut down for health and safety reasons following a deck collapse in 2017. The decision to demolish the inn is seen as a pivotal move to revitalize the area and enhance public safety.
As demolition progresses, residents can expect regular updates from local officials. The District of Lake Country has assured the public that they will provide ongoing information throughout the demolition process.
With the Airport Inn’s demolition now underway, the community looks forward to the transformation of this site into a vibrant residential development. Stay tuned for further updates as this important project unfolds.
