DIY Houseboat “Neverlanding” Docks in Michigan After Epic Journey
UPDATE: The captivating DIY houseboat, the Neverlanding, has just docked in Port Austin, Michigan, after an adventurous journey across the Great Lakes. Its captain, Steven “Captain Steve” Mylrea, revealed new details about his extraordinary voyage, sparking excitement among fans and followers.
The Neverlanding, launched in April on Lake Erie, was recently spotted on the St. Clair River and in Lake Huron, before making its way to Michigan. Mylrea described the journey as a childhood dream come to life, fueled by a strong desire to explore and adventure.
In a recent interview, Mylrea shared, “I never give up. You can’t give up, no matter what anybody says.” His determination resonates with the growing community surrounding the Neverlanding, which now boasts over 15,000 members on its dedicated Facebook group, Neverlanding — The Houseboat of Dreams.
The 36-year-old captain, originally from Oxford County, Ontario, has worked as an electrician and computer programmer. He built the houseboat himself, transforming years of planning into reality. With features like a full kitchen, bathroom, personal sauna, and hot tub, the Neverlanding is nothing short of a floating oasis.
Mylrea’s loyal dog, Mexicali, is accompanying him on this journey, making the adventure even more heartwarming. “I’m very comfy. As comfy as I’ve ever been,” he expressed, highlighting the unique bond they share aboard the boat.
However, Mylrea’s journey has not come without challenges. Recently, he nearly slipped on the icy deck while attempting to install a flagpole for a Donald Trump flag, prompting local authorities to advise him to seek safety in port. He docked at Port Austin on Tuesday night, prioritizing safety while maintaining his adventurous spirit.
Despite his recent stop, Mylrea remains undeterred and is focused on preparing the Neverlanding for future travels. His ultimate goal? A dream journey to Madagascar, which he estimates could take up to 10 years.
Officials in the Windsor area confirmed that the Neverlanding meets safety regulations, but expressed concerns about the harsh winter conditions in the Great Lakes. Mylrea acknowledges these concerns while emphasizing his commitment to keep moving forward.
As Mylrea prepares to continue his voyage, he hopes his story inspires others to defy limits and chase their dreams. “I guess it’s about … defiance,” he said, echoing the sentiments of many who have rallied around his journey.
Stay tuned for more updates on Steven Mylrea and the incredible adventures of the Neverlanding. This story continues to captivate hearts and minds across social media, igniting a passion for adventure in all who follow along.
