Dodgers Dominate Blue Jays 5-1, Series Tied 1-1 Heading to LA
UPDATE: The Los Angeles Dodgers have leveled the World Series at 1-1 after a commanding 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Saturday night. Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto dazzled fans with a complete game, allowing just one run and securing his second consecutive complete game in this postseason.
The pivotal Game 3 is set for Monday, October 30, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET in Los Angeles, where the Dodgers will face Max Scherzer, while the Blue Jays will counter with Tyler Glasnow.
The Dodgers struck first in the opening inning, as Will Smith drove in Freddie Freeman with a single, giving LA an early 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays tied it in the third when Alejandro Kirk hit a sacrifice fly to score George Springer from third. However, the Dodgers quickly regained control.
In the fifth inning, Max Muncy smashed a solo home run, extending LA’s lead to 3-1, before a wild pitch later in the eighth allowed Andy Pages to score, pushing the lead to 4-1. The Dodgers capped off the scoring in the ninth with a final run, sealing the game and shifting momentum in their favor.
Yamamoto’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he struck out six batters and showcased his command throughout the game. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays’ starter Kevin Gausman pitched 6.2 innings, surrendering four hits and three runs, but struggled against a relentless Dodgers lineup.
Fans at Rogers Centre also witnessed emotional moments, including a tribute to the Stand Up to Cancer movement, uniting players and spectators alike. Despite the loss, spirits remained high among Blue Jays supporters as they look ahead to the critical Games 3, 4, and 5 in Los Angeles.
