Edmonton Parents Honor Children in Emotional Candlelight Ceremony
UPDATE: The Grieving Parents Society in Edmonton held an emotional candlelight ceremony on October 15, 2023, honoring children who have tragically passed away. This annual event drew parents together at the Evergreen Community Centre to share their grief and celebrate the memories of their beloved children.
The ceremony, which took place in the afternoon, provided a much-needed space for parents to connect and support each other. “We create a safe space to express some very difficult feelings,” stated Candace Toews, a member of the society. This gathering is part of the society’s ongoing effort to foster fellowship among parents who have experienced the loss of a child at any age and for any reason.

The candlelight ceremony serves as a poignant reminder of love and remembrance. “Lighting a candle is a very personal thing and often people have a little something they say,” Toews explained to CTV News Edmonton. “We hope it’s meaningful.”
