BREAKING: Elsi-Con 2025 has just concluded with an overwhelming turnout at the Chief Young Eagle Recreation Centre in Elsipogtog First Nation. Hundreds of attendees flocked to this vibrant comic convention, showcasing the creative spirit and community pride of this Mi’kmaw region.

Hosted by Susan Levi-Peters, the event was inspired by a prior visit to a comic convention in Moncton seven years ago. “My husband and I walked in and he said, ‘Whoa, it’s a wholly different world and everybody’s happy,’” she recalled. This passion transformed into reality on Saturday, July 15, 2025, as Elsi-Con 2025 brought together actors, cosplayers, comic book artists, and vendors for a day filled with excitement.

The atmosphere buzzed with energy, highlighted by Canadian Indigenous actor Adam Beach, who experienced a steady stream of fans eager for autographs. “This is my first reservation comic-con, but I’ve been to San Diego’s and LA’s comic-cons, and this definitely measures up,” Beach stated, noting the event’s impressive organization.

The event also featured an exciting new addition: live wrestling matches, a suggestion from the East Coast Comic Expo team. Kirk Aube, representing Innovative Hybrid Wrestling, emphasized the connection between comic characters and wrestling personas, saying, “There’s not much difference between a comic-con character and a professional wrestling character.” Children were thrilled by these matches, which added an unexpected twist to the convention experience.

Highlighting the creativity of participants, Ricky Whyte from Napan won the Best in Show award for his meticulously crafted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume, made entirely from lightweight Eva foam. “It doesn’t weigh a thing and looks great!” he shared, reflecting the dedication that many attendees brought to the event.

With only two months of planning, Levi-Peters expressed optimism for future conventions. “If we had 10 months of planning, imagine what we can come up with next year,” she said, already eyeing a possible Elsi-Con 2026.

The success of Elsi-Con 2025 not only celebrates creativity and community but also highlights the growing trend of local events that engage and inspire. As the Mi’kmaw community embraces this cultural celebration, the potential for future gatherings appears bright.

Stay tuned for updates on next year’s Elsi-Con, which promises to build on this successful foundation and continue bringing joy to fans across the region.
