URGENT UPDATE: Environment Canada has just announced critical air quality and frost advisories impacting multiple regions across Canada. As wildfires rage on, residents in Western Canada are facing deteriorating air quality while the East braces for frost conditions.

Wildfires in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories have led to air quality advisories affecting numerous regions, including Central Okanagan and Kootenay Lake in B.C., Lethbridge and High Level in Alberta, along with Buffalo Narrows and Beauval in Saskatchewan, and Fort Simpson in the Northwest Territories. Residents are urged to stay indoors and keep windows closed, as smoke conditions can shift rapidly.

“During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour by hour,” Environment Canada warned. Authorities recommend limiting outdoor exposure and rescheduling any outdoor activities.

Additionally, an air quality advisory has been issued for Annapolis County in Nova Scotia, where firefighting crews are actively working to contain a wildfire.

Meanwhile, the East is experiencing fall-like temperatures, prompting frost advisories in parts of Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick. The advisory for Ontario covers a significant area around Algonquin Provincial Park and cottage communities such as Bancroft, Haliburton, and Huntsville. Frost is expected overnight into Tuesday, impacting regions of Quebec’s Gaspe Peninsula and eastern New Brunswick communities like Campbellton, Grand Falls, and Woodstock.

Residents in affected areas are advised to take immediate protective measures for frost-sensitive plants and crops, such as covering them to prevent damage. “Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops,” Environment Canada explained.

This is a developing situation, and residents are strongly encouraged to stay informed through local news and official updates from Environment Canada as conditions may change rapidly.

Stay tuned for further updates on these critical advisories as they unfold.
