Firefighters Contain 0.03-Hectare Wildfire in Golden, B.C.
URGENT UPDATE: A small wildfire in Golden, British Columbia, has been successfully contained by firefighting crews as of Friday afternoon, August 1, 2023. The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports that the fire, located near Hospital Creek and just off Ottoson and Kemp roads, has grown to 0.03 hectares—about the size of a tennis court.
The blaze, suspected to be caused by lightning, broke out early Friday morning and quickly became a concern for fire authorities. An initial attack crew consisting of three to four personnel was dispatched immediately to the scene and has worked diligently throughout the day to control the situation.
As of 3 p.m. on Friday, BCWS confirmed that the fire was being held effectively, with no visible flames, only a small stream of smoke rising from the affected area. A photo released by BCWS depicted a scorched patch of land surrounded by healthy vegetation at the edge of a second-growth forest, illustrating the quick response to prevent further spread.
Currently, there are no area restrictions in place for the Hospital Creek fire, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation for any changes. Residents and interested parties can stay informed about the latest developments by visiting wildfiresituation.nrs.gov.bc.ca/map.
This rapid response underscores the importance of preparedness and vigilance in wildfire-prone areas, especially in the wake of hot and dry weather conditions. As fire crews continue their efforts, the community remains on alert but hopeful as they witness the efficacy of the firefighting efforts.
