Former CFL Star Todd Wiseman Wins B.C. Senior Golf Championship

BREAKING: Todd Wiseman, a former Canadian Football League (CFL) player, has captured the B.C. Senior Men’s Golf Championship title in a stunning finish at the Pitt Meadows Golf Club on August 7, 2023. Wiseman, who played for the B.C. Lions, Toronto Argonauts, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, shot an impressive even-par 72 in the final round, finishing the tournament at two-under-par.
With this victory, Wiseman, a native of Kamloops now residing in Port Moody, adds a significant trophy to his collection, despite previously falling short of winning the Grey Cup during his football career. He secured the championship by finishing just one shot ahead of Tom Kenny from Coquitlam, who struggled on the final holes.
“I was fortunate to get drafted by the Lions in ’87 and in ’88 we made it to the Grey Cup in Ottawa and lost 22-21,” Wiseman reflected after the tournament. “Heartbreak, but right down to the end, you take from those moments in life. It’s funny when things come full circle.”
Wiseman’s dramatic finale saw him take the lead after parring the 17th hole, while Kenny faltered, failing to make par. Wiseman effectively sealed his victory by placing his approach shot on the 18th hole within eight feet of the pin.
The top Okanagan finisher was Norm Bradley of Kelowna, who tied for eighth place with a score of 3-over-par 219. Bradley also won the B.C. Super Senior (65 and over) title, demonstrating his prowess alongside the Senior Men’s event.
Three golfers from Vernon faced challenges in the Senior Men’s competition. Andrew Tkachuk finished with a total score of 241 after rounds of 80-76-85, while Mike Otter recorded a total of 246 with scores of 85-85-76. Brett Kury concluded the tournament with a score of 248 after rounds of 87-84-77.
In the Super Seniors category, Vernon’s Jim Ryan placed tied for seventh with an 11-over score of 227, having shot 75-77-75. Ted Bilton secured a tie for eleventh at 232 with scores of 77-77-79.
Bradley clinched the Super Senior title with a two-shot victory over Frank McKenzie of Victoria. Third place went to Doug Roxburgh, a remarkable 13-time B.C. Men’s and four-time Canadian Men’s Amateur champion.
As Wiseman celebrates this achievement, the golf community recognizes the emotional journey he has taken from professional football to amateur golf, showcasing resilience and dedication. Stay tuned for more updates on local golfing events and athlete accomplishments.
