UPDATE: Four individuals have been arrested in North Bay following a major drug and weapons bust triggered by an automated licence plate reader. The incident unfolded just after midnight on Tuesday when police were alerted to a suspended driver’s vehicle, leading to a swift response.

Authorities confirm that officers discovered a handgun on the floor of the vehicle during an interaction with the driver. All four occupants—two men and two women—were taken into custody without incident, reflecting a high level of professionalism from the responding officers.

During subsequent searches, police uncovered two imitation handguns, brass knuckles, and drugs including 3.5 grams of cocaine and 1.5 grams of fentanyl. The driver, a 33-year-old man, was also found to be impaired, leading to charges of impaired driving, weapons offences, trafficking, and driving without a licence.

In addition, a 36-year-old male passenger faces serious charges of drug trafficking and multiple weapons offences, including possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. A 33-year-old female suspect has also been charged with drug trafficking and weapons offences, while a 55-year-old woman was charged only with drug trafficking.

“This incident showcases how technology like automated licence plate readers enhances our ability to identify and intercept dangerous offenders before they can cause further harm,” stated Insp. Scott McFarlane in an official news release.

Three of the suspects are currently in custody, while the 55-year-old has been released with a future court date. All suspects are residents of North Bay, amplifying the local impact of this urgent law enforcement action.

As the community reacts to this alarming event, police emphasize the importance of swift action in high-risk situations to ensure public safety. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
