Four Teens Charged in Urgent Mall Robbery Attempt in Mississauga

UPDATE: Four teenagers have been arrested in a dramatic attempted robbery at the Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga on July 12, 2023. Just before 3 p.m., Peel police reported that four masked individuals armed with hammers entered the mall, triggering an immediate security response.

As mall security and an on-duty officer spotted the suspects, a chase ensued. One suspect was captured at the scene, while the others fled in a stolen Honda CR-V. Police quickly mobilized, tracking the vehicle and successfully boxing it in to prevent a high-speed pursuit.

Dashcam footage from police cruisers captured the intense moments as two police vehicles converged on the SUV, blocking its escape routes. In the video, one suspect is seen fleeing on foot, leading officers on a chase while another attempted to evade capture behind an officer. Within moments, law enforcement apprehended the second suspect, bringing the situation under control without any reported injuries or stolen property.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 17 years old, face multiple charges including robbery, attempt to commit an indictable offence, and possession of property obtained by crime. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities cannot be disclosed. Authorities have also linked these individuals to an earlier robbery attempt in York Region.
