UPDATE: A fourth teenage boy has been charged with first-degree murder in the tragic death of 16-year-old Carter Spivak-Villeneuve, who was found dead in Calgary on August 1. Calgary police confirmed the arrest of the 16-year-old suspect on Tuesday, just days after the initial charges against three other teens were announced.

The police believe there are no additional suspects in this case, which has gripped the community. The previous three suspects, all aged 15, were charged last week, making this a rapidly developing situation that highlights an escalating trend of youth violence in the area.

Carter Spivak-Villeneuve was discovered in the Abbeydale neighborhood of Calgary in the early hours of August 1. An autopsy later confirmed his death as a homicide, although the details of how he was killed remain undisclosed by authorities.

“Our thoughts remain with Carter’s family as they continue to grieve,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Homicide Unit. He emphasized the profound pain the family is enduring, stating, “We know that no arrest can take away the pain that Carter’s family is experiencing.”

Last week, police revealed that there had been an arrangement for Spivak-Villeneuve to meet with the suspects that night, alleging that an ongoing dispute was a factor leading to his death. This revelation adds a chilling layer to the already heartbreaking case.

The first suspect was arrested on November 4, 2023, on the Muskowekwan First Nation in Saskatchewan. Following this, two more suspects were apprehended in Calgary on November 12, 2023.

As the investigation continues, Calgary police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The emotional toll on the community is palpable, as residents rally around the victim’s family during this difficult time.

This ongoing case serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing youth today and the urgent need for community support and intervention. Stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available.
