Free Health Program for Adults 55+ Launches in Langley
URGENT UPDATE: A transformative health and wellness program for adults aged 55 and older has just launched in Langley City! Choose to Move is back, running from September 27 to November 29, 2023, and offers free sessions designed to empower older adults to lead healthier, more active lives.
Kim Hilton, the director of recreation, culture, and community services for Langley City, announced the program’s return, emphasizing its importance in fostering an age-friendly community. “Langley City is proud to support programs like Choose to Move that empower older adults to live healthier, more connected lives,” she stated. This initiative reflects Langley’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents of all ages.
Past participants have expressed their gratitude, highlighting the program’s positive impact. Ron and Terri-Lou shared, “Thank you for all the energy, encouragement, and fun you bring to every class. You make the sessions something we all look forward to.” Another participant, Ann, noted the program’s motivational influence, stating, “I appreciate this very much,” as she shared her experience of walking with her dog, Echo, enhanced by the program’s encouragement.
Developed by the University of British Columbia, Choose to Move is delivered in partnership with the Active Aging Society and the BC Recreation and Parks Association. The program includes individual coaching and eight group sessions tailored to help participants establish active habits that align with their interests and lifestyles. Whether it’s walking, dancing, gardening, or swimming, participants can select activities they enjoy, making health and wellness both accessible and enjoyable.
