Fresh Eyes 2025 Final Phase: Literary Submissions Under Review Now
BREAKING: The innovative Sault creative project, Fresh Eyes 2025: The Sault Reimagined, is now in its final phase as the organizing committee begins reviewing literary submissions. This crucial evaluation process is set to conclude by early September 2025, making it a pivotal moment for local artists and writers.
The Fresh Eyes initiative has already made waves by selecting 31 photographs in its first phase, showcasing the talent within the Sault Ste. Marie community. Now, attention turns to the literary works submitted by local and regional authors, which include everything from brief photo captions to 200-word pieces encompassing poetry, fiction, and historical narratives.
Committee member Bryan Davies emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “Our Committee has promoted Fresh Eyes as a way for Sault people to reimagine their city, especially in these times of great uncertainty and fears for the future.” The outpouring of creative submissions highlights the resilience and artistic spirit of the community.
The Fresh Eyes committee, which includes notable figures such as Judy Penz Sheluk, Amanda Capper, A.A. Parr of Type A Media, and podcaster Lisa Tucker from Borderline Radio, is committed to showcasing the diverse talents of Sault Ste. Marie. Their efforts are supported by numerous local businesses, including City Meat Market, JD Aero, Donnelly / IG Wealth Management, United Steel Workers Local 2251, and realtor Terry Esposti.
As the final selections are underway, the selected photographs are currently being displayed on the Downtown Plaza video screen, creating a visual celebration of local creativity. This unique initiative stands as a first for Sault Ste. Marie, serving as a freestanding tribute to the area’s talented and diverse artistic community.
WHAT’S NEXT: Following the conclusion of the literary review, details regarding the official Fresh Eyes publication will be announced in September. This publication is expected to reflect the rich tapestry of stories and artistic expressions that encapsulate the spirit of Sault Ste. Marie.
Stay tuned for further updates as this exciting project progresses, and consider sharing this important news with your network to support local creativity!
