URGENT UPDATE: A compelling program on bird-friendly coffee is set to take place in Fulton, Illinois, on August 25. The Volunteer Millers of de Immigrant Windmill will host renowned speaker Greg DuBois, who will shed light on the pressing issue of migratory bird conservation through sustainable coffee practices.

The event kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Windmill Cultural Center, located at 111 10th Ave. This free program is open to the public and promises to provide critical insights into the impact of coffee production on bird populations, particularly in North America.

DuBois, a passionate birding enthusiast and active member of both his county Audubon chapter and the Illinois Audubon Society, has dedicated his post-retirement life to avian conservation. His extensive experience includes leading birding tours and monitoring bird populations for the U.S. Forest Service at the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, located just 60 miles south of Chicago.

In his presentation titled “Smithsonian Bird-Friendly Certification Coffee: Conserving Birds One Cup at a Time,” DuBois will discuss the history and production methods of coffee, along with alarming facts about the decline of migratory bird species. Attendees will learn about the Smithsonian Bird Friendly Coffee Program and explore actionable steps to help protect these vital bird populations.

The event will also feature light refreshments, making it a perfect opportunity for community engagement and discussion on conservation efforts. The venue is accessible, ensuring that everyone can participate in this meaningful dialogue.

With so much at stake for our feathered friends, this program is a must-attend for anyone interested in environmental conservation and sustainable practices. For more information or questions, contact the Volunteer Millers at 563-249-6115.
