Geneva Enacts Road Closures for Fox Valley Marathon This Sunday

URGENT UPDATE: Geneva officials have confirmed the closure of several key downtown streets early on Sunday, September 21, to facilitate the annual Fox Valley Marathon. The race kicks off at 7 a.m. in nearby St. Charles and will navigate through Geneva, Batavia, and North Aurora, culminating across the Fox River.
Road closures will be enforced from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the following thoroughfares:
Illinois Route 31 from Roosevelt Street in St. Charles to Fabyan Parkway
Stevens Street from Route 31 to Fifth Street
Ford Street from Route 31 to Fifth Street
North Fifth Street from Stevens to Peyton streets
Peyton Street from Fifth Street to Route 31
State Street/Route 38 from State Route 25 to Seventh Street
James Street from Route 31 to Fifth Street
South Fifth Street from James to Campbell streets
Campbell Street from Fifth to Third streets
Third Street from Campbell to Fulton streets
Fulton Street from Third Street to Route 31
Officials are urging motorists to plan accordingly as detours will be in effect. Eastbound traffic on Route 38 will divert south on Seventh Street, then east on Franklin Street, and south on Third Street to Route 31. Westbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse.
For those traveling south on Route 31, the detour will lead west on Roosevelt Street, south on Third Street in St. Charles, then east on State Street, and south on Seventh Street before reconnecting to Route 31.
Motorists are advised to avoid downtown Geneva if possible and utilize Route 25, Fabyan Parkway, and Randall Road to circumvent closures. Marathon officials and local police will be on-site to manage traffic and assist residents within the race course.
