Geneva Mayor to Appoint New City Administrator This Week
URGENT UPDATE: Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns is set to appoint Alexandra Voigt as the city’s new administrator during a critical City Council meeting on August 4, 2023. This announcement comes just days after current administrator Stephanie Dawkins revealed her retirement effective August 15, marking a significant leadership transition for the city.
Voigt, formerly the deputy chief of staff for the city of Aurora, brings a wealth of experience to the role. From August 2010 to May 2025, she managed 32 employees and acted as a vital liaison between the mayor’s office and the public. Her application, included in the Council’s agenda, highlights her extensive management of daily operations, budget preparations, and her proactive engagement with community concerns.
Among her notable achievements, Voigt helped secure a $1 million, five-year USDA grant focused on “greenscaping,” and was pivotal in drafting Aurora’s first-ever Mobile Food Unit Ordinance. This ordinance established essential inspection and licensing processes for food trucks, demonstrating her commitment to innovation in city governance.
Voigt’s leadership was also crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she addressed unforeseen challenges head-on and revised the online licensing process to better serve the community. Her ability to foster collaboration is evident in her establishment of a new city boards and commissions infrastructure, which includes 10 new advisory groups with over 315 engaged community stakeholders.
The Geneva City Council convened for a special meeting on July 28, which included a closed session to discuss the appointment in accordance with the Illinois Open Meetings Act. As the city prepares for this transition, the upcoming meeting on August 4 is expected to draw significant public interest.
Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for the Council’s decision, as it will shape the future of Geneva’s administrative approach and community engagement. The appointment of Voigt could mark a new era for Geneva, with her experience suggesting a focus on modernization and responsiveness to community needs.
This developing story highlights the importance of local government leadership and its direct impact on residents’ lives. As Geneva looks ahead, the appointment of a new city administrator is a pivotal moment that residents will not want to miss.
