Ghostly Encounters Await: Regina’s Spook-tacular Tour Launches

UPDATE: A thrilling new ghost tour, YQR Haunts: Ghost Tour of Regina, is set to debut in Regina this October, just in time for Halloween. Spanning four dates, the three-hour guided experience will take participants through four of the city’s most haunted locations, revealing spine-chilling tales of history and the supernatural.
The tour, crafted by local historians and ghost enthusiasts K.D. Kulpa and Kathy Sabo, aims to blend Saskatchewan’s rich history with eerie narratives. “This whole thing is really about history meets haunting,” Kulpa stated, emphasizing the educational aspect of the tour. “So (it’s) teaching Saskatchewan history through ghost stories.”
With all tickets selling out one month in advance, the overwhelming demand has prompted organizers to create a waitlist for next year’s event. This unprecedented interest highlights a growing fascination with local lore and ghostly encounters, making it a must-see attraction for both residents and visitors.
Participants will explore the haunting tales of notable figures, including James Strathdee, a businessman from the 1930s. Strathdee’s ghost is believed to linger near his former workplace, where he was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Witnesses have reported strange occurrences, such as objects moving on their own, further fueling the legend.
One of the tour stops is home to a collection of antiques, where a playful spirit known as Howie is said to reside. Kulpa noted that Howie’s presence is marked by distinctive footsteps echoing through the halls. In a particularly puzzling incident, a copper bathtub—disconnected from plumbing—was inexplicably found full of water during renovations.
Another chilling location features sightings of an elderly woman appearing in a second-story window. This site, which has served various purposes throughout its history, is rumored to host multiple spirits who met their untimely ends due to illness or injury.
The tour also pays tribute to the tragic events of the 1912 Regina Cyclone, one of Canada’s deadliest tornadoes, which claimed the lives of 28 individuals. Among them were Frank and Berth Blenkhorn, newlyweds who were vacationing in Regina. The location where they perished is part of the tour, reminding visitors of the area’s haunting past.
The Regina Leader-Post has also launched a quiz to engage those who can’t attend the tour, allowing them to test their knowledge about the city’s supernatural stories.
As Halloween approaches, this tour promises not only a frightful experience but also a deeper understanding of Regina’s history. Those interested in joining next year’s haunting adventure are encouraged to sign up for the waitlist as demand is expected to remain high.
