Glenbard North Dominates St. Charles East in 75-46 Conference Win
UPDATE: Glenbard North delivered a stunning performance against St. Charles East last night, securing a commanding 75-46 victory in the DuKane Conference. With a remarkable display of shooting, the Panthers hit 10-of-15 three-pointers in the first half, leaving their opponents trailing by a staggering 28 points at halftime.
Junior forward Caeden Chilton shone brightly in his first varsity season, contributing all 15 points in the first half. Classmate and guard Lamari Carpenter led the team with a game-high 22 points, including five three-pointers. The duo’s exceptional performance showcased the Panthers’ offensive firepower and tenacious defense.
“We wanted to make a statement,” said Glenbard North coach Kevin Tonn. “Our defensive efforts energized our offense, and we executed our game plan flawlessly.”
The Panthers started strong, with Carpenter sinking his third three-pointer early in the first quarter, propelling Glenbard North to a swift 16-5 lead. By the end of the first quarter, the Panthers extended their advantage to 25-9. St. Charles East struggled significantly, missing 7 of 10 free throw attempts during the first half, further hampering their chances of a comeback.
Despite a more spirited effort in the second half, the Saints were unable to close the gap. Senior forward Gavin Belli acknowledged the team’s lack of energy, stating, “In the first half, we didn’t have the energy and that’s not who we are. We’re a hard-working team.”
St. Charles East managed to spark a brief rally, opening the third quarter with an 11-5 run. However, Glenbard North quickly regained control, and a three-pointer from senior Kristian D’Alexander solidified the lead at 65-37 by the end of the third quarter.
In addition to Carpenter’s standout performance, D’Alexander and classmate Matt Welch each added 12 points. Teammate Oturo Redento rounded out the scoring with 11 points and a game-high 7 rebounds.
The Panthers’ impressive victory improves their record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. As for St. Charles East, the defeat drops them to 1-5 and 0-2 in the DuKane Conference.
Glenbard North’s strategy of prioritizing defense paid off, as they made a total of 15 three-pointers throughout the game. Coach Tonn praised his team’s focus and energy, emphasizing the importance of their defensive performance in achieving such a decisive win.
Fans and players alike are eager to see how the Panthers will continue to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches. As for St. Charles East, the team is determined to improve their performance and find a rhythm as the season progresses.
With the basketball season in full swing, all eyes will be on both teams as they strive for success in the coming weeks.
