Global Christmas Traditions Unite Cultures at Stratford Service
UPDATE: A vibrant church service in Stratford, P.E.I. on December 10, 2023, showcased global Christmas traditions, uniting diverse cultures through food and multilingual worship. Cornerstone Baptist Church’s Christmas Around the World event drew congregants from approximately 20 nationalities, marking a significant moment for community connection.
The celebration featured a unique blend of songs and readings translated into multiple languages, creating an inclusive atmosphere. Among the highlights was a delectable food sampling, where attendees enjoyed treats like Colombian rice pudding, Brazilian brigadeiro, and Jamaican fruit cake. Vianny Katherine Orcasitas, a church member for nearly three years, brought her cherished family recipes, stating, “These dishes remind me of home, especially during special festivities.”
Orcasitas expressed her excitement about hearing the service delivered in various languages. “It was amazing, I love it,” she shared. “It’s the first time we have it like that.” For many newcomers, she noted, such events offer a vital opportunity to share personal stories and forge connections in a foreign land.
Pastor Cody Bolton echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange. “Food serves as a wonderful talking point,” he said. “It helps break down barriers and opens up discussions on our commonalities.” This sentiment resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom expressed gratitude for the chance to celebrate their heritage.
The event not only highlighted the beauty of diversity but also fostered a sense of belonging among those far from their families. As the congregation shared laughter and stories over traditional dishes, it was clear that moments like these are crucial for building community ties and nurturing understanding across cultures.
As the holiday season approaches, community leaders hope to see more events that celebrate diversity in Stratford and beyond, encouraging people to come together, share their traditions, and strengthen communal bonds. This gathering serves as a powerful reminder of the unifying power of food and tradition, making the world feel a little smaller, even during the festive season.
Stay tuned for more updates on community events that continue to bridge cultural gaps and foster inclusivity.
