Hamilton Labour Day: Key Services Open and Closed Today
URGENT UPDATE: Hamilton residents need to be aware of significant changes to service operations this Labour Day Monday. As of today, September 4, 2023, numerous essential services are either closed or operating on a limited schedule.
The Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) will run on a Sunday service schedule, with the last downtown departure around midnight. Residents needing assistance can contact the HSR at 905-546-2489. However, all government offices, including the LCBO, The Beer Store, and CF Lime Ridge, will remain closed for the day.
Notably, the following facilities will also not be operational:
– Public library branches
– Adult day program at Macassa Lodge
– Animal Services office and shelter
– Community recycling centres
– Dental clinics
– Civic museums
– Municipal Service Centres
Additionally, all Ontario Works and special support programs, along with the Provincial Offences Administration Office, will not be available today.
Waste collection is also impacted, with no garbage, blue box, green bin, yard waste, or bulk collection today. Residents should note that collection will occur one day later for the rest of the week.
In terms of mail services, Canada Post is closed today, meaning there will be no mail collection or delivery. Private sector post offices may operate, so it’s advisable to check local listings.
For those looking to enjoy the day, some private businesses may choose to open, as Labour Day is not a statutory holiday. Residents are encouraged to check individual shop hours.
In terms of public health, the Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park will maintain its regular schedule. However, all DARTS subscription trips are canceled today, except for essential dialysis trips, which require advance booking.
Be sure to plan accordingly and stay updated on service changes. This Labour Day is shaping up to be a day of limited operations across Hamilton, impacting residents’ ability to access essential services and leisure activities.
