Chris Flynn, a Canadian Football Hall of Fame quarterback, has spent over a decade perfecting his backyard rink on Long Lake, just 50 kilometers northeast of Gatineau. Just announced, Flynn’s latest creation—a hand-built Zamboni—has gone viral, amassing over 35,000 likes on social media. “In 2010, I decided to start doing a skating rink on the lake,” Flynn explained. But maintaining smooth ice proved challenging. With the assistance of neighbor Stephane Deshaies, they transformed an old lawnmower into a fully functional Zamboni.

Deshaies emphasized that the machine mirrors a real Zamboni, stating, “What we like about it, it’s the same shape as a real Zamboni.” The duo utilized hot water, enhancing the quality of the ice, a feature that Flynn noted is crucial for optimal conditions. “We’re able to use hot water, which cures and repairs the ice better than cold water,” he said.
