BREAKING NEWS: A historic milestone for Canada is on the horizon as Jeremy Hansen, a graduate of the Royal Military College, prepares to become the first Canadian to orbit the moon. This groundbreaking journey is part of NASA’s Artemis II mission, which is set to launch as early as February 8, 2024, pending successful tests of fueling operations.

The 10-day mission will cover a staggering one million kilometers and marks a significant leap in space exploration, as Hansen will also be the first non-American astronaut to participate in a lunar mission. This is the first crewed mission to the moon in over half a century, making it a momentous occasion not just for Canada but for the global space community.

During a recent press conference, Hansen expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity. “When I look at that rocket, and think of the people who have poured their heart and soul into this vehicle, it’s truly extraordinary,” he stated. The crew will consist of Hansen, commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialist Christina Koch.

Hansen, who hails from London, Ontario, has an impressive background. He began his journey in aviation as a young cadet and rose through the ranks to become a fighter pilot in the Canadian Armed Forces. Selected as one of two recruits by the Canadian Space Agency in 2009, Hansen completed his astronaut training in 2011 and has since been involved in critical roles at NASA, including leading astronaut training programs.

The Artemis II mission follows the uncrewed Artemis I flight in 2022 and aims to test the systems of the Orion spacecraft. After circling the moon, the crew will splash down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, paving the way for future missions that may eventually lead to crewed visits to Mars.

As the launch date approaches, excitement is building not just in Canada but across the globe, as this mission represents a pivotal moment in international space exploration. Stay tuned for further updates as the countdown to this historic journey continues.
