Jets’ Win Streak Snapped: Kings Dominate with 3-0 Shutout
UPDATE: The Winnipeg Jets’ three-game win streak came to an abrupt halt as they suffered a 3-0 shutout loss against the LA Kings on October 24, 2023. This decisive defeat marks a significant setback for the Jets, who faced their first road loss of the season.
In a standout performance, Adrian Kempe scored his 200th NHL career goal, while Drew Doughty set a new franchise record for goals by a defenseman, helping the Kings secure their first home win of the season. Darcy Kuemper stopped 23 shots to preserve the shutout, while Kevin Fiala capped off the scoring with a late power-play goal.
Kempe’s milestone goal came late in the first period, as he capitalized on a centering pass from Joel Armia, launching the Kings to an early lead. This achievement places Kempe among the elite, becoming the ninth member of the 2014 NHL draft class to reach 200 goals, completing the feat in 644 games.
Doughty added an empty-netter with just 54 seconds left in the game, surpassing franchise great Rob Blake with his 162nd goal in 1,221 games. The Kings’ strategic lineup changes paid off; they reunited Mikey Anderson with Doughty on the first defensive pair, while Armia’s promotion to the top line proved effective as he assisted on Kempe’s goal.
Further adding to the night’s milestones, Kings forward Corey Perry celebrated his 1,400th career game, joining a select group of 44 players in NHL history to achieve this landmark. Active players alongside him include Brent Burns, Alex Ovechkin, and Anze Kopitar.
For the Jets, captain Adam Lowry made his season debut, playing as third-line center after recovering from hip surgery in late May. Last season, Lowry recorded a career-high 18 goals, and his presence was crucial as the Jets aimed to maintain their momentum.
The Jets must regroup quickly as they look to bounce back from this loss in their next matchup. With their first road game defeat behind them, they will need to reassess their strategy and performance to avoid further setbacks.
Stay tuned for more updates as the NHL season unfolds, with teams vying for top positions and players reaching significant milestones.
