UPDATE: A disturbing incident at the Pita Pit in downtown Kelowna, B.C., has led owner Pavneet Singh to plead for immediate action against a group of teenagers wreaking havoc in his establishment. Videos from September 18 show the teens climbing on counters and invading the food prep area, leaving employees feeling harassed and business operations disrupted.

Singh described the ongoing turmoil, stating, “They’re definitely harassing the employees for sure and disrupting the business.” This group of teenagers has been a persistent problem, with Singh reporting loitering and public drinking on his outdoor patio throughout the summer. “They break windows and cause property damage,” he added, emphasizing the lack of consequences for their actions.

Despite repeated calls to law enforcement, Singh claims “police hands are tied.” He explained that while officers respond, the teens quickly return to the area after being escorted away. “We call them many times. They do come. I am not saying they don’t come, but the teenagers, they take them, they go away from the property and a couple hours later they come back,” Singh said.

Police have confirmed they are actively investigating the incidents at the Pita Pit and nearby Happy Slice, another of Singh’s businesses. One teenager connected to the chaos has been arrested, but authorities have not disclosed specific details due to privacy laws concerning minors.

The motivations behind this disruptive behavior remain unclear. However, social media trends, particularly on platforms like TikTok, may play a role. Experts note that youth are increasingly influenced by online prank culture, which encourages reckless stunts that can lead to legal issues. Jesse Miller, founder of Mediated Reality, stated, “At some point if you are doing something that’s going to get you into legal trouble, odds are somebody’s documenting it.”

Singh is calling for parental involvement, urging parents to talk to their children about the inappropriateness of such behavior. “I think the parents should be involved,” he stressed, highlighting the need for community action to address the chaos.

The RCMP confirmed that their investigation is ongoing, and they are committed to ensuring the safety and security of local businesses. As the situation develops, community members and local officials are urged to take a stand against such disruptive behavior.

With tensions running high, the urgency for a resolution grows. Singh’s plea reflects a broader issue of youth behavior in public spaces, raising questions about accountability and the influence of social media on today’s youth. Community members are encouraged to share their thoughts and support initiatives aimed at restoring peace to downtown Kelowna.
