Kinistino Student Hadley Gariepy Joins 2025-2026 Youth Council
BREAKING NEWS: Hadley Gariepy, a Grade 12 student from Kinistino School, has been named to the 2025-2026 Youth Council, a crucial initiative aimed at shaping the future of education in Saskatchewan. This announcement comes as the provincial government emphasizes the importance of student input in classroom decision-making.
The Youth Council, consisting of 12 high school students from across the province, will engage with the Ministry of Education to discuss vital educational policies, curriculum, and programs. Gariepy expressed her excitement, stating, “Being selected for this is a really big deal,” highlighting her commitment to advocating for student voices in Saskatchewan.
Nominated by Superintendent Garette Tebay from the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division, Gariepy’s selection underscores her dedication and leadership in the community. Tebay praised her work with the Saskatchewan Rivers Students for Change, noting, “Hadley is very good at giving all students the opportunity to share their voice.” Gariepy, who also serves as the President of the SRSC, aims to ensure that every student’s voice is heard, especially in a province as diverse as Saskatchewan.
The Youth Council’s members recently met in Saskatoon for an orientation, where they were briefed on their roles and responsibilities. Education Minister Everett Hindley welcomed the new members, stating, “Their perspectives are essential in helping shape a more responsive and positive education system for all Saskatchewan students.”
Gariepy plans to focus on safety and equity during her term, emphasizing the need for inclusivity in educational discussions. “Saskatchewan has a fairly big province with various school experiences,” she noted. “I just want to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard.”
As the Youth Council embarks on its mission, students like Gariepy are poised to make significant impacts on the educational landscape in Saskatchewan. This initiative not only empowers student leaders but also aims to create a more equitable and responsive education system for future generations.
