Kodiaks Surge Past Rams 33-13, Clinch Playoff Spot in BCFC

UPDATE: The Prince George Kodiaks have secured a crucial victory, defeating the Langley Rams 33-13 on September 30, 2023, at Masich Place Stadium. This win propels the Kodiaks into playoff contention in the highly competitive BC Football Conference.
Dominating the game, the Kodiaks held the nationally sixth-ranked Rams scoreless for three quarters, establishing an impressive 26-0 lead. Despite a late rally from Langley, which finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter, the Kodiaks’ solid defense and potent offense proved too much to handle.
“This feels so good! This team worked so hard through the bye week,” said Kodiaks quarterback Sawyer Thiessen. He highlighted the significance of their performance, especially after a long wait for home fans. The Kodiaks played their first home game in three weeks, and the victory was a testament to their determination.
The game shifted decisively in the third quarter when rookie defensive back Dillon Piddocke intercepted a pass and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown, marking his first career interception. “I’ve seen that in film so many times… it felt like I was doing what I was supposed to do,” Piddocke stated.
The Kodiaks’ offensive strategy saw them score three touchdowns in the third quarter, beginning with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Thiessen to Quinn Neukomm, who switched from quarterback to receiver last season. The momentum was further solidified with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Thiessen to Ben Fehr.
As the final whistle approached, the Rams attempted to mount a comeback, scoring two touchdowns, but it was too little, too late. The Kodiaks’ defense, led by players such as Jason Kragt and JJ Aboagye, had delivered a formidable performance, limiting the Rams to just five first downs and a mere 79 yards in the first half.
Now at a 2-2 record, the Kodiaks leapfrogged the Rams in playoff standings, marking their first victory over Langley in four seasons. “We’re a different team,” said head coach Jamie Boreham, reflecting on the team’s growth and resilience after previous losses.
Looking ahead, the Kodiaks will face the Kamloops Broncos next weekend, who are still seeking their first win of the season. As they prepare, the Kodiaks aim to build on this momentum and solidify their playoff position.
The Kodiaks’ victory not only signals a turning point for the team but also resonates deeply with their dedicated fanbase, proving their potential in the toughest junior football conference in Canada. Fans and players alike are buzzing with excitement as the Kodiaks continue to make their mark this season.
