Kylie Masse Falls Short, Finishes Fourth in 100m Backstroke
BREAKING: Canadian swimmer Kylie Masse narrowly missed the podium in the women’s 100-metre backstroke final at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore today, finishing in fourth place.
Masse clocked in at 58.42 seconds, just 0.27 seconds behind American Katharine Berkoff, who secured the bronze medal. Australia’s Kaylee McKeown dominated the race, setting a championship record with a stunning time of 57.16 seconds, while Regan Smith of the USA took silver in 57.35 seconds.
This marks a bittersweet moment for Masse, a five-time Olympic medallist, who also placed fourth in this event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her performance today highlights the fierce competition at these world championships.
In addition to Masse’s efforts, fellow Canadian swimmer Taylor Ruck from Kelowna, B.C., finished seventh in the final with a time of 59.59 seconds.
Despite the disappointment, Team Canada has been making waves at the championships, already securing four medals, including two golds from the remarkable 18-year-old Summer McIntosh. McIntosh is aiming for an impressive five individual titles during this eight-day meet, adding excitement for Canadian swimming fans.
